It has become increasingly common to have a short (15-30min.) wedding ceremony at the same location as the reception. This can sometimes save brides a few expenses (i.e. florist transfer fees, limos, church fees, etc.), but can also leave a bride with a few things unanswered when it comes to music (churches usually assign a coordinator). Here is a basic rundown of the types of ceremony songs you’ll need to consider:
1) Ceremony seating music: Can be anything you choose, but typically instrumental like a CD of light piano music. Other ideas: Appropriate love songs or maybe a CD of string music (see our post on string covers for your favorite Rock band).
2) Bridal party: A song for when your bridal party is introduced. Typically a separate song from the bride so the guests will be aware of the brides entrance, but not completely necessary if the bridal party is very small. Your DJ can fade the music to achieve the same result.
3) Wedding Processional: A song for the bride’s walk down the aisle.
4) Candle lighting ceremony: This isn’t done very often at a reception hall, especially for outside weddings as the wind may make it a bit tricky. Other ideas might include a rose ceremony or a sand ceremony. Get creative! You could a plant a flower! (Just don’t kill it! If you’re anything like me and my husband, this would be a very bad idea. LOL)
5) Wedding Recessional: A song for the bride and groom’s walk back down the aisle together, after they’ve been pronounced husband and wife. Might use something more upbeat, happy and fun for this.
The thing I love most about weddings…there are no rules! Well, barely any rules left. It is so much fun to put your own special touches and make it match the personality of you as a couple.
